Windward Ventures was founded in 2022 by Brett Olson, a seasoned energy industry expert with over 17 years of experience and a remarkable track record of accomplishments. Brett began his career as a Research Designer for the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), focusing on innovative technologies that enhance the energy sector, including self-healing control systems. His work has continuously driven advancements in energy reliability and renewable integration.
Throughout his career, Brett has made significant contributions to the industry. He was the Lead Customer Designer and Developer for the first Landis+Gyr Distribution Automation RF Device for Smart Irrigation Load Management and Control, a project published in 2016. He also played a key role in co-developing RF Meter Metrology for SCADA Interoperability and Distribution Automation Design, reflecting his technical expertise in energy automation. In Nebraska, Brett created and led the state’s first IT/Cyber and Strategic Planning Community, bringing together 28 Wholesale Public Power Districts.
Windward Ventures was established to capitalize on Brett’s deep industry knowledge and experience by providing tailored solutions to both buy-side and sell-side clients in the renewable energy sector. Specializing in sourcing off-market deals and offering comprehensive advisory services, the firm helps investors acquire high-value renewable energy assets, while also guiding energy companies through strategic exits and transactions. Services include financial analysis, due diligence, and risk assessment, all aimed at maximizing value and ensuring transaction success.
Windward Ventures' advisory capabilities are supported by Brett’s extensive experience as a developer for in-house mobile applications and data collection environments in operations and utility technology. His work in creating cutting-edge solutions earned him the 2024 Central Community College Outstanding Alumni Award and a Certificate of Utility Recognition from U.S. Representative Michael J. Flood.
Brett holds an MBA with a specialization in Finance Management, a Master's in Computer Information Systems Management (focused on Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Mathematics), and an Engineering degree in Electrical Systems Technology. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) with a focus on Information Assurance and Business Logistics.
