Prior to founding Windward Ventures, Brett Olson built an impressive career in the utility industry. As the current Director of Information and Operations Technology at Cornhusker Public Power District in Columbus, NE, he oversaw key departments such as AMI, GIS, IT, and SCADA. He worked closely with engineering and department heads to optimize operational processes, ensure reliable electricity delivery, and integrate technology-driven solutions. Brett also collaborated on financial management, budgeting, and rate design, demonstrating his expertise in financial and operational strategy.
Brett’s contributions to the energy sector include serving as a Research Designer for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and leading the development of innovative control systems and smart grid technologies. He was the Lead Customer Designer and Developer for the first Landis+Gyr Distribution Automation RF Device for Smart Irrigation Load Management and Control, published in 2016. Additionally, Brett created Nebraska’s first IT/Cyber and Strategic Planning Community, uniting 28 Wholesale Public Power Districts.
His work in creating cutting-edge solutions earned him the 2024 Central Community College Outstanding Alumni Award and a Certificate of Utility Recognition from U.S. Representative Michael J. Flood.
Brett holds an MBA with a specialization in Finance Management, a Master’s in Computer Information Systems Management (focused on Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Mathematics), and an Engineering degree in Electrical Systems Technology. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) with a focus on Information Assurance and Business Logistics.
